Our Childcare Team consists of seventeen permanent members of staff and a panel of relief workers who work with us to ensure that we always work within the HSE guided ratios.
Our Administration Team consists of a full–time Childcare Manager, a full–time Office Administrator, two office assistants, a Housekeeper and a full time cook who holds a HACCP qualified training certificate.
All of our Childcare staff are trained to at least a FETAC Level 5 in Early Childhood Education and all are fully qualified. A number of our staff also hold FETAC Level 6 diplomas and degrees. FETAC is an internationally recognised award.
All of our Childcare staff hold current First Aid Certificates, which are renewed bi-annually. They also hold certificates in Child Protection and Manual Handling and all staff members have Garda clearance which is renewed on a regular basis.
All of our Childcare staff have training in the Highscope Curriculum which is effectively used throughout the centre, ensuring that even our youngest babies benefit from the value of active learning and have input to their daily routine.
Each year we are chosen by local colleges to facilitate students who wish to gain valuable, hands on work experience. All of these students are Garda vetted by both the college and by ourselves before beginning the work experience programme and at no time whatsoever are they permitted to change nappies or to be left alone with the children.
Mellow Spring Childcare Development Centre is a home from home where all of the children are active participants in their own learning abilities and development. We believe that the Highscope Curriculum allows the children to plan out their daily routines, to carry out their plans and then to review and discuss all of their activities with their Key worker at the end of the session. Highscope believes that all children are individuals and that they learn from every day activities that they are involved in, both at home and in a Childcare centre. Here at Mellow Spring we aim to support this teaching and enhance it at every opportunity.
The Highscope Curriculum supports all of the children’s interests and it encourages staff to develop themes with the children rather than planning for the children. The Highscope Curriculum is used with Siolta and Aistear Frameworks to further develop our Centre and the children’s experiences every day.
